Speaking ahead of the Global Day of Action, Dasha Anderson stated:

“Traditionally, the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has been used by governments to encourage punitive drug control measures in response to increasing levels of drug use worldwide and is a staple in the Drug War calendar. The Global Day of Action aims to shift the focus away from a punitive approach to drug use toward one based on harm reduction, public health and restorative justice. At Students for Sensible Drug Policy, young people come together to deliver honest drug education and advocate for policy change, both on campus and beyond. The trillion dollar War on Drugs has been fought for over 50 years, with no reduction in drug availability or drug use, which is why we feel it is vital as young people, an age group among the most affected by these policies, to join the Global Day of Action and tell our policy makers that enough is enough”.
