Interim Chair Announced & Public Meetings Go Digital

The Labour Campaign for Drug Policy Reform (LCDPR) would like to congratulate Charlie Falconer and Thangam Debbonaire on their ministerial appointments as Shadow Attorney General and Shadow Secretary of State for Housing, respectively. Charlie and Thangam have both made outstanding contributions to the Labour Party and their promotions to the front bench are highly deserved.

As LCDPR exists to consult with the Labour grassroots and present their views on drug policy reform to the Labour front bench, Charlie and Thangam will be stepping down from their active roles as Chair and Founder of the campaign.

We are delighted that Charlie will now become Patron of LCDPR and Thangam will continue to be a supporter of the campaign.

Jeff Smith MP will stay in his role as Founder, and Expert Working Group member Mike Trace has been appointed as interim Chair. A new permanent Chair will be announced in due course.

The campaign’s remaining three public meetings will be hosted virtually and will continue in the same format, where participants will be asked how they think the Labour Party’s drug policy should be reformed.

The South-East meeting will take place on the evening of May 28th, with details of the remaining two events, Northern Ireland & London announced soon.

It is essential that drug policy reform is still debated and shaped in this ever-changing world, and the Labour Campaign for Drug Policy Reform looks forward to continuing this important work.
